First rule of these sorts of places: There is no hope.  Seriously, no hope.  The people there are predominantly going to spiral around in their own little orbits, blind to everyone and everything else, and there is nothing you can do about it.  Embrace this idea, and you will possess the power to will yourself to do and say horrible things.

I've personally been weighing whether it's time for me to stop censoring myself.  If this is the sort of sentiment running around the people whose opinions I value, it might be that time.
